Description
Monitor Audio Studio 89 Bookshelf Speakers (Nearly new)
The Monitor Audio Studio 89 Bookshelf Speakers originate from the iconic Studio Series, established in a decade when music revolutionised our engagement with artists and self-expression defined a generation. Since the 1980s, home audio has evolved significantly and the Studio 89s are a modern reinterpretation of this legacy. Redesigned for the digital age, they benefit greatly from over a quarter-century of industry-leading innovation.
At the core of their performance is a ‘point-source’ mid-tweeter-mid driver array, consisting of a pair of 4.25-inch mid-bass drivers flanking the pleated high-frequency transducer. These drivers are specially crafted with advanced C-CAM layers and a powerful motor system, including an 85mm diameter magnet structure that’s larger than the cone itself, providing high-level control and pristine pistonic performance. In between the mid-bass drivers is the MPD III transducer, which delivers wider dispersion and a lifelike high-frequency presentation.
With the drivers contained in a rigid, HiVe II slot-ported cabinet construction, the Studio 89s enhance sound quality by reducing potential turbulence and air noise. The meticulously configured crossover ensures untarnished frequency transmission, meaning you’ll hear your music the way it was intended with negligible distortion. Despite their compact size, the Monitor Audio Studio 89 Bookshelf Speakers deliver a large soundstage and excellent imaging, making them perfect for both small and large spaces.
Simplicity personified.
Small, compact and visually unique, the all-new Studio 89 is an uncompromising little speaker. It packs an awful lot of acoustic technology into its compact dimensions, and while it is one hundred percent a Monitor Audio speaker, born of our Transparent Design Philosophy, it is as unique in the range as the statement Hyphn.
Studio 89 is designed to be different. Listen Again.
Born of a decade fuelled by cultural change-makers.
Monitor Audio Studio 89 Bookshelf Speakers takes inspiration from this culturally explosive decade but is a thoroughly modern loudspeaker. Inspired by individual expression and the culture that shapes it, Studio 89 is the loudspeaker for the new change-makers.
MTM Driver Array.
The MTM (Mid-Tweeter-Mid) Driver Array offers advantages of vertical symmetry. Also, increased bass-mid driver cone surface and voice coils mean improved dynamic capability and better in-room floor and ceiling interaction. Working like a point source, the sound dispersion is large, spacious and enveloping.
RDT III.
Studio 89’s bass-mid driver cones are made up of three ultra-thin layers to ensure rigidity and strength. A C-CAM outer skin, ‘ceramic-coated aluminium magnesium’, sits over a Nomex honeycomb central core with the underside skin made up of a woven carbon fibre. The result: super lightweight and very, very strong.
Transparent Design Philosophy.
The all-new Studio 89 is built upon an R&D philosophy of maintaining a balance between design and technology. One is never allowed to overpower the other and both play a vital role in delivering on our promise of musical neutrality and acoustic transparency. The physical speakers are designed to sit comfortably within their environment. They are a beautiful statement, but one where perfectly balanced design neutrality means they will blend in for a lifetime of use.
Cabinet design.
Compact in size and extremely narrow, Studio 89’s design optimises acoustics and helps present a much larger soundstage into the listening area. The cabinet is also carefully internally braced to ensure structural rigidity.
New crossover design.
The crossovers have undergone hours of listening and part selection, using only the best bespoke polypropylene and polyester capacitors, air-core and low-loss laminated steel-core inductors to provide maximum signal transfer and reduced distortion for optimum sound delivery.
MPD III.
The MPD III (micro-pleated diaphragm) high-frequency transducer delivers precise, lifelike high frequencies with ease. Its super-fast-reacting accordion-like pleats produce a smooth, wide and fast response.
Articulate, powerful and controlled bass.
Monitor Audio Studio 89 Bookshelf Speakers is compact for good reason. We know space is at a premium within the home, while large room-filling sound is a must. Advances in metal driver cone technology and powerful motor systems mean that the two things aren’t mutually exclusive.

About Monitor Audio
Monitor Audio started life in a factory in Teversham near Cambridge, England in 1972 and has been focused on making some of the world’s best sounding hi-fi and home cinema speakers ever since. In addition to a long line of award-winning loudspeakers, the company is also highly regarded for its constant design innovations like the C-CAM driver, which uses a material originally developed by the aerospace industry for a high resistance to bending stress, resulting in a smooth transition of audio frequencies.
