Description

Hegel H200 Streaming Amplifier

The H200 is The Connected: an integrated amplifier with streaming, DAC, MM phono input, headphone output, USB drive playback, and 150 watts of output power per channel. It brings flexibility and highend performance together in one powerful, elegant component. But the H200 is not built around features for their own sake. Every part of it is made to work together, with the amplifier at the center and the music as the priority.

Built on Control

At the heart of the H200 is the powerful 150W analogue Class A/B amplifier section. However, the power rating only tells part of the story. What matters just as much is how the amplifier behaves when driving real loudspeakers with real music. The H200 uses Hegel’s SoundEngine2 technology to reduce distortion in real time. Instead of correcting errors after they have already passed through the amplifier, Sound-Engine2 detects distortion where it occurs and cancels it before it can travel further through the signal path. Combined with stability down to 2-ohm loads, the result is an amplifier that remains clean, composed, and controlled, even when the music becomes complex or the loudspeaker load becomes demanding. A damping factor of more than 4000 gives the H200 firm control over the loudspeaker drivers. Bass notes start and stop with precision. Rhythms become easier to follow. The entire presentation gains clarity because low-frequency energy is kept in order. This is not control for its own sake. It is control in service of the music.

Analogue at Heart

Although the H200 is built for streaming and digital playback, its foundation is still a serious analog amplifier. It includes a balanced XLR input, two unbalanced RCA inputs, fixed and variable line level outputs, and a high-quality headphone output for private listening. This gives external DACs, CD players, and other components connected through analog inputs a proper place in the system. The H200 may be connected, but at its core it remains a serious analog amplifier.

A phono stage worth using

The H200 includes a dedicated Moving Magnet phono input based on the MM section of Hegel’s standalone V10 phono stage, using hand-matched FET transistor gain stages together with carefully selected op-amps. Designed for low noise, precision, and musicality, it is not a checklist feature, but a high-performance input they are happy to recommend.

Digital done properly

The H200 features a high-performance DAC that supports digital sources through coaxial, optical, USB-B, USB-A, and network inputs. The USB-A input allows direct playback from USB drives with up to 10,000 songs, while the network connection opens the door to streaming platforms, internet radio, podcasts, and local music libraries. The H200 is built to make digital music sound as natural, detailed, and engaging as possible. Hegel achieve this because the amplifier, streamer, and DAC are all designed in-house and work together as one system. Digital performance depends on far more than the DAC chip itself. Power supplies, grounding, clocking, signal routing, analog filtering, and integration with the product as a whole all determine how the DAC actually performs. But careful digital design is not only about decoding the signal. It is also about keeping unwanted noise away from the analog amplifier.

Digital shielding

In an amplifier with streaming, DAC, control systems, and analog amplification inside the same chassis, noise control becomes critical. In the H200, particular care has been taken to protect the analog circuits from digital switching noise. Careful layout, grounding, signal routing, and separate circuit boards for key digital components help keep noise away from the sensitive analog stages. The result is heard as a smoother, richer, and more detailed presentation, with a quieter background and a stronger sense of musical flow.

Streaming without the lock-in

The H200 is designed to work with the platforms people already use. Spotify Connect Lossless, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, and Roon Ready are all supported, allowing listeners to play music directly from the apps and devices they already know. There is no need to learn a proprietary music ecosystem simply to play music. For added convenience, the H200 also comes with the Hegel Control app. It provides input selection, volume control, playback commands, airable internet radio and podcasts, and browsing of music libraries through UPnP and the USB drive input. And because the streaming section is fully integrated with the H200’s hardware and firmware, streaming is fast, stable, and effortless.

Made for daily life

A core Hegel belief is that a good amplifier should not demand attention every time it is used. The H200 includes a range of functions designed to make everyday listening easier. Digital Input Sense can wake the amplifier and select the correct input when a signal is detected. The H200 can also learn volume commands from a TV remote, allowing it to be controlled naturally by everyone in the home. Because this works regardless of input, it can also be used in more advanced setups, such as with an AV receiver connected to one of the analog inputs. Each input can be assigned a fixed volume level. This makes it easy to integrate the H200 into a home theater system or any setup where volume is controlled by another component. Startup volume and maximum volume settings help prevent unexpected volume jumps. Auto standby reduces unnecessary power consumption. The display dimming is automatic and fully customizable, allowing the display to be bright when needed, dimmed during normal listening, or turned off completely in a dark room. The H200 also supports Control4, Crestron HOME, and Crestron SIMPL, allowing it to become part of more advanced smart home systems. Our goal is for technology to be there when needed. The rest of the time, it stays in the background.

Hegel H200 Streaming Amplifier

Ready for the future

The H200 is designed to stay current, with firmware, app, and feature updates installed automatically when they are released. It also leaves room for future component upgrades. With its coaxial digital output and DAC Loop feature, the H200 can send digital signals to an external DAC. This gives listeners a simple upgrade path. Use the H200 as a complete streaming amplifier today. Add an external DAC later. The H200 remains the central hub, handling source selection, streaming, volume control, and amplification, while the rest of the system can grow around it.

The connected route

The H200 is for listeners who want a complete system without giving up serious performance. It is powerful enough to drive demanding loudspeakers, refined for careful listening, and flexible for modern homes. It brings together streaming, DAC, phono, analog inputs, smart control, and everyday convenience in one integrated amplifier. Not because more features always make a better product. Because when they are done properly, they make it easier to listen. The H200 is the connected route to the same goal Hegel has always pursued. Nothing added. Nothing taken away. Just music.

About Hegel Audio
norway flag

Hegel Audio is a high-end audio equipment manufacturer based in Norway, renowned for its exceptional sound quality, minimalist design, and innovative engineering. With a focus on delivering an uncoloured, dynamic, and emotionally engaging listening experience, Hegel has earned a strong reputation among audiophiles and music lovers worldwide. The company blends advanced engineering with minimalist Scandinavian design, resulting in equipment that emphasises both form and function. Hegel’s philosophy centres on transparency and neutrality, aiming to bring listeners as close as possible to the original recording without adding character or colouration to the sound.

Hegel Audio was founded in 1988 by Bent Holter while he was studying at the Technical University in Trondheim, Norway. Frustrated by the distortion common in audio electronics at the time, Holter focused his thesis on eliminating harmonic distortion in solid-state amplifiers. This academic pursuit laid the foundation for what would become Hegel Audio. The company’s name was inspired by “The Hegel Band,” a rock metal group Holter played in during his spare time—he often built amplifiers for the band’s performances himself. As his ideas evolved, so did the need for extensive time and investment to refine the underlying technology.

All of Hegel’s products are designed in-house in Norway, incorporating advanced technologies rarely found in consumer audio gear. Drawing from fields such as semiconductor design, high-frequency and telecommunications engineering, and scientific research, Hegel crafts systems that offer exceptionally accurate and natural sound reproduction.
