Linn Lingo 4 Power Supply
If you own a Linn LP12 Majik and you are thinking about the first upgrade to make, the Linn Lingo 4 Power Supply is the answer.
It has been that answer, in various forms, since Linn first introduced outboard power supplies for the LP12 — and the current iteration represents a substantial step beyond its predecessors.
The Lingo replaces the LP12’s internal power supply with a dedicated outboard unit that incorporates technology derived from Linn’s flagship Radikal.
In practical terms, it controls the speed of the LP12’s motor more precisely, more consistently, and more intelligently than the standard internal supply can manage.
Why the Power Supply Matters
Speed stability is not an abstract concern on a turntable. The groove in a vinyl record encodes music as physical modulations — the cartridge reads those modulations and translates them into an electrical signal.
If the platter is not rotating at a constant, correct speed, every note in the music is slightly wrong in pitch. Pitch variation of even a fraction of a per cent is audible, even to listeners who would not describe themselves as technically minded.
Music loses its sense of natural timing; instruments sound slightly off; the performance becomes harder to follow.
The LP12’s internal Majik power supply does an adequate job. The Lingo does a considerably better one.

How the Lingo Works
The current Lingo incorporates a speed management system that monitors and corrects platter rotation on every single revolution, not simply on startup. It auto-calibrates the motor when the LP12 is powered on, optimising drive for the specific motor it is working with. The on-board circuitry fits internally within the deck, paired with the Lingo’s external slimline power supply — which is compact enough to sit discreetly on a shelf or conceal behind a rack.
The Lingo supplies a new 12V AC motor along with the upgrade. This is not a detail: the new motor, driven correctly by the Lingo’s control circuitry, is part of why the upgrade delivers what it does.
Dual-speed operation — 33⅓ and 45 rpm — is supported.
The Audible Difference
The standard description of what a Lingo does to an LP12 is improved pitch stability, and that is accurate. But what you hear in practice is broader than that. Music has more rhythmic precision. Timing cues — the attack of a note, the decay, the space between notes — are clearer. The presentation as a whole feels more certain of itself. It is one of those upgrades that is difficult to describe precisely and quite easy to hear.
Linn has said for years that the power supply is the first upgrade to make on an LP12. After the Karousel bearing, the Linn Lingo 4 Power Supply is the single most significant step you can take with a Majik-specification deck.
Compatibility
The Lingo fits the Linn Sondek LP12 Majik and Selekt LP12 specifications. It replaces and supersedes all previous Lingo models. If your LP12 already has a Lingo fitted from an earlier specification, the current version is a worthwhile upgrade in its own right.
Above the Lingo in Linn’s power supply hierarchy sits the Utopik — Linn’s top-specification switch-mode supply — and the Klimax Radikal, which is the power supply and motor controller fitted to the Klimax LP12.
The Linn Lingo 4 Power Supply is engineered for professional installation only and cannot be purchased online.
To achieve its full performance potential, this precision Power-supply must be expertly installed and calibrated by our trained and certified Linn engineers.
Professional calibration ensures perfect alignment, optimal tracking, and seamless integration with your turntable and cartridge.

About Linn

Linn was founded in 1973 by Ivor Tiefenbrun. At that time, Ivor was dissatisfied with the performance of the Hi-Fi system he had just purchased after getting married.
He used the resources at his father’s engineering company to fix what he thought was wrong with the design of the system and it was then that the Sondek LP12 turntable was born.
This turntable is regarded as the most popular high-end turntable of all time. Linn has received worldwide acclaim for its quality products including the Royal Warrant award in 2002 and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation in 2012.
