Description
Product Overview
The JBL Stage 240B is the smallest bookshelf loudspeaker of the new JBL Stage Series. This loudspeaker features a 2-way design with Next Generation patented High-Definition Imaging (HDI) waveguide geometry, 1-inch (25mm) Anodized Aluminum dome tweeter, and a 4.5-inch (114mm) Polycellulose cone woofer that provides deep, signature JBL bass.
The JBL Stage 240B Speaker is a compact unit that is around 11” high. It features a 4.5 bass/mid driver and a 1” tweeter. Moreover, it has a rear-firing bass port for punchy bass. The recommended maximum amplifier power is 125 Watts. Additionally, low-powered amplifiers can drive this speaker to high volumes.
The frequency response extends up to 25 kHz. Notably, This is the smallest speaker in the range and is good for the main left and right speakers in a small room. They can also be used as surround speakers with JBL AV receivers.
4.5” punchy bass/mid driver
The bass/mid driver in the JBL Stage 240B Speaker features a 4.5” Polycellulose ribbed cone. Speaker cones are normally made out of paper pulp or Cellulose. However plastic materials are also now being used. Notably polypropylene. This material does not absorb moisture and can produce less distortion.
The cone used in the JBL Stage 240B Speaker is made of a combination of both, known as Polycellulose. This has improved rigidity and damping characteristics. Lastly, the quality tweeter is made of anodized aluminium and sits inside a waveguide. The waveguide ensures good dispersion of high frequencies.
A quality cabinet
The cabinet of the JBL Stage 240B Speaker is made of MDF which has good audio characteristics. The internal bracing reduces resonances. Moreover, the rear-facing bass reflex port boosts the bass with this compact speaker. There is also a removable front grille. Bass ports are used by smaller speakers to increase the bass response. As a result, the bass is extended down to 48Hz.
Crossover
The crossover used in the JBL Stage 240B Speaker splits the audio into two bands for feeding to the tweeter and bass/mid unit respectively. It is essentially a high-pass filter that is made up of capacitors and inductors. The capacitors used are high-quality polypropylene types that do not go electrically leaky or change value over time. The crossover frequency is 1.4 kHz.
4.5-inch (114mm) Polycellulose Ribbed Cone Woofer
Each speaker in the Stage 2 series features Polycellulose ribbed cone woofers. This pure pulp cone has a proprietary mix of other materials added to improve its rigidity and the ribs echo legendary JBL designs. These woofers produce deep, accurate, room filling bass.
1-inch (25mm) Anodized Aluminum Tweeter in a Next Generation HDI™ Waveguide
Through intense research of previous waveguide designs, JBL has developed a new complex geometry that improves directivity, reduced diffraction, and an overall neutral frequency response both on and off axis. The Stage 2 HDI Horn is coupled to an anodized aluminum dome tweeter to enhance efficiency and dynamics.
Precision 2-Way Crossover
Premium components are used to construct the crossovers fitted to the Stage 2 line. The High frequency section features air core inductors and mylar capacitors that reduce distortion and improve sonic performance. The low frequency section includes laminate core inductors and electrolytic capacitors. These premium materials can handle more power and transmit energy faster elevating system performance.
Bass-Reflex Design with Dual Rear-Firing Flared Ports
The Bass-Reflex design of the 220P use dual rear-firing flared ports. This new flared design reduces the velocity of the air when exiting the speaker cabinet, eliminating any chuffing or coloration of output.
