Description
Product Overview
The Stage 250B is largest bookshelf loudspeaker of the new JBL Stage Series. This loudspeaker features a 2-way design with Next Generation patented High-Definition Imaging (HDI) waveguide geometry, 1-inch (25mm) Anodized Aluminum dome tweeter, and a 5.25-inch (130mm) Polycellulose cone woofer that provides deep, signature JBL bass.
The JBL Stage 250B Speakers are the largest bookshelf speakers in the range, at 12.6” high. They feature a 5.25” bass/mid driver and a 1” tweeter. Additionally, there is a rear facing bass port that extends the frequency response down to 50Hz. The maximum power is 150 watts.
However, low-powered amplifiers can still achieve high volumes in a smaller room. The tweeter has a waveguide and the frequency response extends up to 25kHz. They can be used as the front right and left speakers or as surround speakers with the JBL range of AV receivers.
5.25” Polycellulose bass/mid driver
The bass/mid driver in the JBL Stage 250B Speakers is made of ribbed Polycellulose. This has improved distortion and damping Characteristics over paper cones. Traditionally speaker cones were made of paper pulp also known as cellulose. However, newer plastic materials are also now used. Particularly polypropylene.
This does not absorb moisture over time. Polycellulose is a combination of both materials and has the best properties of both. The ribbing also makes the cone more rigid.
1” aluminium tweeter
The 1” anodized aluminium tweeter sits in a waveguide. The waveguide is used to disperse high frequencies in the listening area. The theory is that a stiffer cone produces better ultra-high frequencies. Notably, JBL are experts at “voicing” a speaker.
A quality cabinet
The JBL Stage 250B speaker cabinets are made of audio-grade MDF. This rigid material has good audio characteristics such as resisting resonances. Moreover, good internal bracing provides solid mounting for the drivers. Additionally, as with most bookshelf speakers, there is a bass port that boosts the bass down to 50Hz.
Top-quality Crossover components
The crossover in a two-way speaker acts as a high pass filter. The JBL Stage 250B crossover is made of inductors and capacitors that split the audio band into two components. Audio-grade polypropylene capacitors are used along with wound inductors.
Previously the dielectric in capacitors was made of paper. This attracted moisture and caused the capacitors to go electrically leaky over time. Modern components will not drift in value or go leaky even over decades.
5.25-inch (130mm) Polycellulose Ribbed Cone Woofer
Each speaker in the Stage 2 series features Polycellulose ribbed cone woofers. This pure pulp cone has a proprietary mix of other materials added to improve its rigidity and the ribs echo legendary JBL designs. These woofers produce deep, accurate, room filling bass.
1-inch (25mm) Anodized Aluminum Tweeter in a Next Generation HDI™ Waveguide
Through intense research of previous waveguide designs, JBL has developed a new complex geometry that improves directivity, reduced diffraction, and an overall neutral frequency response both on and off axis. The Stage 2 HDI Horn is coupled to an anodized aluminum dome tweeter to enhance efficiency and dynamics.
Precision 2-Way Crossover
Premium components are used to construct the crossovers fitted to the Stage 2 line. The High frequency section features air core inductors and mylar capacitors that reduce distortion and improve sonic performance. The low frequency section includes laminate core inductors and electrolytic capacitors. These premium materials can handle more power and transmit energy faster elevating system performance.

About JBL
JBL is an American company, founded by James Bullough Lansing, an American audio engineer and loudspeaker designer and his business partner Ken Decker in 1927 in Los Angeles. They initially manufactured six and eight-inch speaker drivers for radio consoles and radio sets. The company was initially called “Lansing Manufacturing Company”.
The company now manufactures audio equipment, including loudspeakers and headphones. The company has two divisions, JBL Consumer and JBL Professional. JBL Consumer produces outstanding audio equipment for the home market, while JBL Professional produces equipment for the studio, installed sound, tour sound, portable sound and cinema markets.
This award-winning brand is a market leader and one of the best in sound quality as well as being at the forefront of cinematic performance.
